Gambling will happen if it is legal or not, you might as well legalize and tax the #e!! out of it.
1 There is no proof of it’s link to crime
2 The chief advantage is tax revenue, disadvantage possible addiction issues.
3 Social controlagainst it is largly fear and shame.
I think it’s wrong and impractical to criminalize something that is already legal. It makes a mess of things, and doesn’t stop the activity from occurring anyway. (think back to prohibition of alcohol). Gambling is no exception.
I do not agree with criminalizing gambling. If people want to gamble themselves into poverty and ruin their lives, let them. The rest of us who gamble but not to the point of stupidity can have have fun instead of financial ruination.
Gambling is an issue that can be argued both ways, and while I agree that the poor are enticed unequally I must say that personal responsibility must play a part somewhere. We are a democratic and capitalist nation, a decision as far as what to do with personal wealth should be left entirely with the consumer. I realize that some will spend the income they have and be destitute, but I say again, personal responsibility must come into play. The issue of social change and law has never been very harmonious. In the 20th century, when alcohol was prohibited it did not promote social change, it just changed how we drank socially. The same argument can be made with certain drugs and gambling. A majority of people who would do those things if they are legal will still do them, but change there purchasing and use habits. I would say that there is much double talk as far as trying to eliminate gambling. We say that non-state sponsored gambling is illegal, but if its a lottery for our children its OK, its still gambling no matter how you look at it. In some cases the government tries to stereotype gamblers in order to create social pressure within the community, which rarely works.
im from las vegas ive lived here my whole life our city is based off tourists and gambling..ive seen alot of people’s lives go to hell and ive seen alot of people just having fun..there isnt anything wrong with gambling as long as you have some self control..gambling is like drugs you can chose to never do it, do it recreationly/for fun..or you can get addicted to it. people should be aloud to gamble if they want to.
